Lotus 23 Users Group Newsletters

THE LOTUS TWENTY THREE NEWSLETTER

Issue No. 1 August 3 1985

ANNOUNCING THE INFORMAL CREATION OF THE
LOTUS TWENTY-THREE USERS GROUP

President: Don Schaefer
11 Rocky Ridge Lane
Farmington, Connecticut 06032

Secretary: William F. Steagall, Sr.

With a list of some fifty or sixty Lotus 23 owners and their addresses in hand, the idea of a special newsletter for that group came readily to mind. You, as recipient of this first issue, have or had a Lotus 23 in recent times. The newsletter is to be a forum for information on restoration, for exchange of ideas, and for news of interest to Lotus 23 owners.

As the originator of the Newsletter, I have the privilege of nominating our leader: Don Schaefer, President, Lotus 23 User's Group. This will come as a surprise to Don, who will learn of it first as he reads his copy of this issue! As the originator, I also get to pick a job for myself: Secretary. That means I will publish the newsletter when the mood strikes me, accept material from those of you who have ideas to spread about, and even publish ads if any are offered. I propose to continue to do this as long as it seems useful.

I have proposed Don Schaefer as the leader of our group because he is already the leader. He has created and shares freely the most complete source of Lotus 23 information ever known to man. His research is careful, complete and voluminous. His knowledge of sources is unsurpassed. Call him for information on you needs. Since I have had the list of owners from Don, I am sure that all of you already have his address and telephone number. Nevertheless, you will find it above in the Newsletter. Mine also, though I have no such claim to fame.

I have had my Lotus 23 for some five and one-half years. I bought it from Mike McHugh of Belmont, CA. (Near San Francisco) I then spent almost four years getting it back to a close resemblance to original. I have not, as yet, attempted the "concours" level restoration that I see and admire on many vintage sports race cars. However, my car is nearly complete, and I get to drive it often.
